Although there are many different design features that can be included in community currency systems, we will focus on three that have a long history and can have significant impacts on how the currency operates.
These features are demurrage or negative interest rates, bonus and malus conversion systems, as well as whether to require, allow or forbid the conversion of the currency into other currencies, mainly national legal tender.
